T&T, part of the Northern Gateway Alliance team, won a Gold Award of Excellence for the Northern Gateway Toll Road in North Auckland. The 7.5 km Northern Gateway project improves access and provides a safe, more direct journey for travellers between Auckland and Northland.
T&T was also awarded a Silver Award of Excellence for its work with Environmental Choice New Zealand (ECNZ). ECNZ is the New Zealand Government’s environmental labelling programme and T&T has acted as technical advisor to New Zealand Ecolabelling Trust since the early 1990s.
Three Awards of Merit were also awarded to T&T for outstanding work. The first was presented for the Material Recovery Facility in Onehunga, Auckland. The MRF provides a long-term, low-impact, sustainable solution to manage recyclable materials produced by households in Auckland and Manukau Cities. This project was also recently awarded the IPENZ Arthur Mead Award for the Environment and Sustainability.
A second Merit award was presented for the Ohope Escarpment Drainage Project in Eastern Bay of Plenty. This small, technically challenging project required an innovative and collaborative approach within the community to solve a long-standing problem of slope stability in the area.
Finally, Pitcairn Island’s Hill of Difficulty project was also presented with a Merit Award at the ceremony. T&T was commissioned to inspect the condition of the main jetty and slipway on the Island as well as the road access up the 'Hill of Difficulty' to the village and then advise on repair options. The outstanding success of this project was due to the determination and close teamwork between all the parties.
Peter Millar, T&T’s Managing Director, is delighted with the awards, stating that all projects are ‘top of the line’ in New Zealand. “We are thrilled to win these prestigious awards, especially in our 50th year. These awards also highlight how passionate and innovative our employees are about the work they get involved in”, he said.
