Guam Delegation visit Whitford Landfill!

On Tuesday 8 July, a number of Tonkin & Taylor staff hosted a delegation from Guam as they visited the Whitford Landfill in South East Auckland.

Pictured: Chris Freer, Andy Stiles and Pip Hair from T&T host Government officials from Guam as they view the Whitford Landfill in Auckland on 8 July.

The Governor of Guam, Mr Felix Camacho, and his team were interested in viewing the Whitford Landfill, due to its similar size to the main landfill in Guam.  Delegation members were also interested in discussing T&T’s specialist expertise in solid waste, both within New Zealand and internationally.

The Whitford Landfill, managed by Waste Disposal Services, has operated with modern engineering and management systems since 1994.  The landfill is now a state-of-the-art facility serving the major urban area of Manukau City and its surrounds.

The Governor was extremely interested in the site visit to the landfill.  Of particular interest was the ongoing development work, design of the steep side slope liner system and stormwater drainage.  Also of interest was T&T’s involvement in the Auckland Materials Recovery Facility, a purpose built waste processing centre in Onehunga.
