Gaining experience and enjoying the challenges at T&T!

Hayden Bowden graduated with a ME (Dist) and a BE (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury and joined T&T’s Christchurch office in September 2007 as a Geotechnical Engineer. Hayden’s particular areas of interest included geotechnical engineering, earthquake engineering and numerical modelling.

Just like Hayden did, kick start your career with Tonkin & Taylor! Apply on-line now! Applications close on Friday 5 June.

Since commencing at T&T Hayden has been involved in many building and infrastructure projects throughout New Zealand and South East Asia. He has gained experience in deep and shallow foundation design, slope stability analysis, retaining wall design, groundwater modelling, planning and supervision of site investigations, numerical modelling and earthquake engineering, especially liquefaction.

Although Hayden is based in Christchurch has also worked for short periods in T&T’s Auckland and Wellington offices.  “These opportunities have been great, allowing me to gain experience on a number of projects.  I've also spent of lot of time in our Kuala Lumpur office working on projects throughout Vietnam, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.”

The staff development and training opportunities are two reasons Hayden enjoys working at T&T.  “I've developed a lot of skills, primarily through working on interesting projects under the guidance of experienced senior staff.  In addition I've been given opportunities to present at conferences in Brisbane, Singapore and Wellington.  At the Wellington conference in 2008 I was awarded the ‘New Zealand Geomechanics Society’s Young Geotechnical Professionals Fellowship Award’.  This award provides funding to present at the International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in Egypt in October - which I'm really looking forward to.”

For more information about working at T&T please contact ontact Nalisha Morar or apply on-line.

NB: Applications for Graduate positions at T&T run through until 5 June 2009.
