The award was presented at a special Ceremony on Wednesday evening, 13 May for the impressive Material Recovery Facility located in Auckland.
The key objective of the Award is to encourage, recognise and publicise significant contributions to the preservation, conservation and improvement of the environment.
The Material Recovery Facility in Onehunga, Auckland, provides a long-term, low-impact, sustainable solution to manage recyclable materials produced by the cities’ households. The design is innovative and incorporates future-proofing allowing for a straightforward upgrade to double the original capacity. The facility will handle the recycling requirements of over 265,000 households accounting for approximately 20% of New Zealand’s population.
Special mention should also be made of Mainzeal Property and Construction, Day Consultants, Positive Planning, Stephenson & Turner and Traffic Design Group.
T&T was also delighted to be part of the Northern Gateway Alliance team who was awarded an Arthur Mead Merit Award for the Northern Gateway Toll Road Project on the same night. Other members of the alliance team include NZTA, Fulton Hogan, Leighton Contractors, URS and Boffa Miskell. The merit award was presented to the team for the application of environmental awareness to the solution of an engineering problem.
T&T's Managing Director, Peter Millar, is thrilled with the awards, stating that both projects are ‘top of the line’ in engineering terms in New Zealand. “We were very pleased to win these two prestigious awards, which show how passionate and innovative our employees are” he said.
