The Telford Awards were held to mark the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Thomas Telford, the first President of ICE and one of the leading British civil engineers of the early 19th Century.
Four New Zealand awards were presented on the night. The award recipients, all members of ICE, were assessed on criteria related to the value of engineering knowledge, delivery of sustainable solutions for the benefit of society and the planet and the encouragement and development of civil engineers of the future.
Mr Peter Millar, T&T's Managing Director, commented that he was thrilled Mr Duder had won the prestigious Telford Award. “The award recognises John’s outstanding achievements to the engineering profession over the last 40 plus years”, he said.
Mr Duder was also appointed as the first Life Member of the New Zealand Coastal Society in 2006 and continues to work for T&T in a consultancy role.
