“The week I started working, cyclone Wilma hit New Zealand so there were many Earthquake Commission (EQC) claims lodged,” recalls Michael.
“T&T’s role in the EQC work involves assessing the site, developing a concept remedial solution to fix the damage, and producing an engineer’s report. The EQC claims have helped me significantly in determining how to remediate landslips and because every claim is so different, distinct designs are required to repair the damage. I have travelled to Tauranga and Whakatane to assist with claims and have seen landslips that range in different shapes and sizes. I have also been involved in larger projects like ground investigations for a proposed wind farm, the designing of retaining walls and the supervision of construction.”
“T&T is a fun place to work with a strong social club providing a range of enjoyable activities. The employee development programme is excellent, allowing and encouraging all graduates to be taught from the company’s finest engineers. I have attended several training courses this year and have met great people, learning valuable information that I can apply to my work and use in the future”.
Michael describes the opportunities available to graduates joining T&T. “There is a lot of room for movement within the company as T&T specialises in many disciplines including Environmental, Coastal, Geotechnical, and Civil; and have offices located around New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia and the Philippines. I have spent a few days at different offices around the North Island and have noticed a trend in the professionalism and the friendly atmosphere. I am thoroughly enjoying my time at T&T so far, and am excited about the projects and challenges to come”.
