Moustafa Al-Ani wins the 2007 Tonkin & Taylor 'Prize in Geomechanics' at the University of Auckland!

Each year Tonkin & Taylor present a number of scholarships and prizes to engineering and environmental science students studying throughout New Zealand.

This year, Moustafa Al-Ani was the lucky winner of Tonkin & Taylor’s Prize in Geomechanics at Auckland University.  The Geomechanics Prize was established in 1994 to encourage excellence in the study of Geomechanics and related subjects and is awarded by a selection committee comprising representatives from T&T and the School of Engineering.

Moustafa has recently completed his BE Civil studies and applied to T&T during T&T’s successful 2007 Graduate Recritment Programme earlier in the year. He was subsequently offered a role in T&T's Auckland office but the lure of academia was too strong and Moustafa has decided to return to Auckland University to complete his PhD studies.

T&T's prizes and scholarships encourage academic excellence and are awarded to students who show potential in their particular fields as well as displaying other qualities such as communication skills, achievements in the arts and sporting and community activities. “The scholarships and prizes T&T provides to students recognise the diverse talents of our young engineers and environmental scientists ” says Peter Millar, T&T’s Managing Director.

For more information on the prizes and scholarships presented by T&T each year please contact Diane Tatton-Brown, Human Resources Advisor.
