Rory Lemon - Enjoying life at Tonkin & Taylor!

After finishing an Environmental Engineering degree at the University of Auckland, graduate Rory Lemon wasn’t sure what field she wanted to get into.  When Rory commenced working in T&T's Auckland office in December 2007 she was offered a role in the Landfill team. She decided to take the job and see how things worked out.

Just like Rory did, kick start your career with Tonkin & Taylor! Apply on-line now! Applications close on Friday 5 June.

Rory's first major project was designing stormwater drainage for Kate Valley Landfill in Canterbury.  Later she was involved in designing the shape and size of the construction and filling stages of landfills, such as Omaranui.  Rory was also involved in designing a leachate reticulation system for Bluegums Landfill.  “I really enjoyed working in the Landfill team. It was wonderful to work with talented, senior engineers and I am really looking forward to becoming as passionate and knowledgeable as they are in the future.”

In December 2008 Rory was offered the chance to work in T&T’s Tauranga office and she wasn’t about to turn her back on her home town. The Tauranga office has become increasingly busy and Rory has now made the choice to stay working in the Tauranga office until later in 2009.  “While I miss working in the Auckland office, especially after realizing my new passion for landfill engineering, I have learned, and will continue to learn so much from working in a smaller office.  I have opportunities to work on projects from beginning to end, to get involved in design work, drawings, on-site investigations/inspections. I am also involved in the management side of things from writing tender documents to talking with clients, contractors and other stakeholders.”

Rory has enjoyed working at T&T since she started in 2007.  “I have always felt at home at T&T and everyone is very friendly.  You can talk with everybody, from other graduates to senior engineers to the management team.  The Managing Director, Peter Millar, even ‘high-fived’ me on National High Five Day!  Since working at T&T I’ve come to the conclusion that it is an awesome place to work, no matter which office you end up in!”

For more information about working at T&T visit us at either the Auckland or Canterbury Career Fairs.  We’ll be at the School of Engineering at Auckland University on 22 April and at Canterbury University on 15 May.

NB: Applications for Graduate positions run through until 5 June 2009.  For more information please contact Nalisha Morar or apply on-line now!
