Tonkin & Taylor takes on Taupo!

On 29 November 84 T&T staff throughout New Zealand took on the ‘Wattyl Cycle Challenge’ around Lake Taupo.  The cycle challenge began in 1977 and is not only New Zealand’s most popular sporting event, but also the largest cycle ride in the southern hemisphere.  Over 10,000 competitors take part every year in this 160 km cycle around the lake.

An overwhelming 84 T&T staff took part in the event cycling in various categories including the solo ride (160 km), teams of two (80 km) and teams of four (40 km).  A number of other T&T staff travelled to Taupo for the weekend to support their colleagues and generally have some fun!

T&T provided branded cycling shirts which ensured the team stood out from the rest.  A T&T tent at the finish line provided an area to recover, relax and retreat from the sun after the ride.  Kaye Brake, one of the Event Co-ordinators, said “it was pleasure to have so many people from one company participating in the event”.

Peter Millar, T&T’s Managing Director believes the event was an outstanding success.  “We are proud to have been involved in supporting an initiative like this for our staff and their families.  The event has seen strong friendships develop between colleagues from different offices throughout the country, encouraged work/life balance, and lead to personal discoveries for some of what they can achieve!”
