Environmental Labelling

Environmental Choice New Zealand is New Zealand’s official environmental labelling programme. The programme recognises environmentally preferable products and services by licensing companies to use the Environmental Choice New Zealand label on their products.

To be licensed, products must meet strict environmental standards developed and set in Environmental Choice New Zealand specifications. These standards are based on a life-cycle based evaluation of products and their effects on the environment.

The programme and its label are owned by the New Zealand Government. An independent trust, The New Zealand Ecolabelling Trust manages the programme on behalf of the Government.

Expertise
Tonkin & Taylor has an ongoing relationship with The New Zealand Ecolabelling Trust and provides technical support for the Environmental Choice programme, including:

• Developing and reviewing product specifications
• Completing assessments for licence applications
• Complete supervision assessments on licence holders
• Providing training for licence assessors
• Maintaining the approved assessor register
• Programme management support
• Support on technical questions and issues.
