On 5 June, New Zealand hosts World Environment Day for the first time since the internationally celebrated event started in 1972.
The theme this year is “Kick the carbon habit”. As one of the nations leading the world with our public commitment to a carbon neutral future, New Zealand was the obvious choice to host the event this year.
A number of events jointly organised with the United Nations Environment Programme (www.unep.org/wed/2008/english/around_the_world/index.asp) will be taking place around New Zealand.
Tonkin & Taylor is currently advising a number of New Zealand and international clients on carbon footprint management, and on development of carbon credit projects such as forestry and landfill gas energy generation.
The Ministry for the Environment has expanded the Green Ribbon awards from six to nine this year, which will be presented two days before World Environment Day, to kick start celebrations!
T&T recently won the Green Ribbon award for the successful remediation and redevelopment of Seaside Park in South Auckland and eagerly anticipates this year’s Ceremony. www.mfe.govt.nz/withyou/awards
T&T staff will participate in a number of initiatives around World Environment Day. A Regional Parks enhancement project involving staff from the Auckland office is currently being organised.
