This year T&T has employed 15 students in all sorts of disciplines, working in all sorts of locations up and down the country. Sutejo Tjokro is one such student who has been working in the Auckland’s Civil Group since last November. Sutejo is in his final year of studying towards a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) at Auckland University and will work as part of T&T's Civil team through to the end of February 2007.
The work that Sutejo is involved in includes structural design and site inspections. He says he has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work on a wide range of ‘real’ projects. “The people at T&T have been wonderful. The atmosphere is friendly and there is always someone who is willing to take time out to answer questions and generally talk me through a particular issue. I really enjoyed the Christmas Party as well, where I got to meet lots of other staff in a casual, relaxed and fun atmosphere.”
Keith Dickson, T&T’s Civil Group Manager, believes the holiday work programme provides students with an opportunity to work alongside other engineers on a wide range of stimulating projects, build confidence and use the skills they have learned in the classroom in a practical way. “Students are also able to achieve their practical degree requirements, earn extra money over the summer period and have a bit of fun along the way", he said.
Applications for T&T's 2006/2007 Student Holiday Programme have now closed. However, if you have any questions or would like more information about the 2007/2008 programme feel free to contact T&T's Human Resource Department: hr@tonkin.co.nz.
