Newmarket Viaduct!

Tonkin & Taylor is delighted to announce it is part of the team that has been appointed by Transit NZ to commence with the development and design, and then to progress construction plans and costings, for the replacement of the Newmarket Viaduct in Auckland!

Transit has awarded the project as an extension to the Northern Gateway Project to utilise the high performing team of consultants and contractors working on that project north of Auckland. In particular, the knowledge gained through the construction of the Waiwera Viaduct will be able to be transferred through to Newmarket.

The Alliance Team consists of Transit New Zealand, Tonkin & Taylor, Fulton Hogan, Leighton Contractors, URS and Boffa Miskell. Beca and VSL have also joined the alliance team for the Newmarket Viaduct project.

Mr Peter Millar, T&T’s Managing Director, commented that T&T is very excited to be working on such a high profile project as part of the Alliance Team.  “T&T’s role will include leading the planning and consents as well as geotechnical, foundations and drainage design.  Other members of the alliance team will share the urban design and structural and civil engineering design while Transit New Zealand will have a direct role in the overall management of the project” he said.

A major goal of the Newmarket Viaduct project is to completely recycle all materials and it is envisaged that considerable urban planning and redevelopment works of the land below will take place.

It is hoped to commence physical works at the end of 2007.
