ENVIRONMENTAL - ENVIRONMENTAL BIOLOGY
Brett Ogilvie
Brett is a Principal of T&T, and a Senior Environmental Scientist within our Environmental Group. He has post-graduate qualifications in freshwater and marine biology, and over 20  years experience in environmental research and consulting.

Brett specialises in developing and implementing environmental investigations, impact assessments and action plans, particularly for large industrial and infrastructure projects. In addition to his strong project management skills, Brett also adds significant technical expertise to his clients’ projects.

Brett’s major project experience includes:
  • Investigations, environmental effects assessments and resource consent applications for landfill and managed fill projects on in the Auckland, Northland, Waikato and Hawkes Bay regions, New Zealand
  • Environmental effects assessments for several beach replenishment and coastal protection projects in New Zealand and the UK
  • Water quality and ecological investigations for water supply and wastewater disposal projects in New Zealand, UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands
  • Water quality, ecology and environmental impact investigations for transportation infrastructure projects in NZ, Europe, Middle East and the Pacific. These include highway, rail, port and airport facilities
  • Feasibility studies for Kyoto CDM emission reduction projects (land use and industrial) in Africa, Central America and the Pacific region
  • Fish habitat investigations and modelling for the Ribb Irrigation Dam near the source of the Blue Nile in Ethiopia 
  • Environmental and social assessment and preparation of Environmental Action Plans for the Bujagali Hydropower Project, on the White Nile in Uganda.

While he is very familiar with New Zealand’s Resource Management Act, Brett also has significant international experience and has worked in approximately 20 jurisdictions. In so doing, he has become conversant with environmental legislation and key issues in several European, Middle Eastern, African and Pacific nations. He is also very familiar with the environmental and social safeguard policies of various International Finance Institutions, including the World Bank Group (such as the new IFC Social and Environmental Performance Standards), African Development Bank and the European Investment Bank, as well as the Equator Principles and a number of EU environmental Directives.

Brett has published scientific articles on water quality and environmental biology in several international journals. He has also acted as expert witness at public, council and IFI/lender hearings in NZ, UK, USA, Uganda and the Channel Islands.
