GEOTECHNICAL - FOUNDATIONS FOR INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT / PACIFIC LOCATIONS
Chris Freer

Chris is a Director and Senior Geotechnical Engineer with Tonkin & Taylor with more than 25 years of geotechnical engineering experience. Chris has a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours – Civil) and is a member of IPENZ and the New Zealand Geotechnical Society.

Chris is responsible for managing and overseeing the geotechnical investigations for a large range of infrastructure projects both in New Zealand and in the Pacific Region. Chris’ specialist skills cover geotechnical feasibility assessments, site investigations, foundation design, stability assessments, retaining wall design, materials, pavements and construction review work. Chris’ international experience covers Malaysia, Vietnam and a large number of the islands in the Pacific Region. In New Zealand his expertise principally covers Auckland and the Northland Region.

His Pacific experience covers a wide range of projects from large scale resort and land developments in Fiji through to port projects for the remote atolls of Palau and Tuvalu. He is responsible for managing multi-discipline teams having undertaken this role on the World Bank funded Faleolo International Airport upgrading in Samoa. Most recently he managed the foundation design for the multi-million European Union funded Rewa Bridge Project in Fiji and was responsible for investigations on the largest high rise building in the Fiji capital, Suva.

Chris has an extensive knowledge of the geology and geotechnical engineering issues in the regions outlined above and he applies practical pragmatic solutions for the benefit of clients.
