WATER RESOURCES - HYDROLOGY
David Leong
David has wide experience on projects that often require a detailed understanding of all aspects of hydrology wherein problem solving and innovation are needed.

David is one of New Zealand’s foremost experts on hydrology and related applications.

He has written 8 papers and was the primary architect for Watercare’s state-of-the-art Integrated Source Management Model project, the winner of an IPENZ Excellence Award. He has over 17 years experience in hydrology and hydraulic engineering, which has encompassed hydro-electric power schemes, water supply headworks, motorway projects, bridges, river and floodplain modelling, dambreak studies, spillway safety evaluations, hydroenergy assessments, specialist hydrological and AEE studies and presenting expert evidence.

A ME (Distinction) and BE (First Class Hons), David is a Chartered Professional Engineer (NZ) and has had key roles in projects including Northern Gateway, Integrated Source Management Model (ISMM), Lower Tongariro River Flood and Erosion Hazard Management Plan, Komarindi, Kioreweku and Project Aqua hydropower projects, State Highway 20 and Auckland Bulk Water options studies.

David is an excellent technical innovator but with a practical understanding of implementation requirements, and his groundbreaking work on the ISMM project is a shining example of this.
