Kerry is one of New Zealand’s foremost experts in the management of hazardous substances and hazardous waste. He has over 30 years experience working in industry, the Auckland Regional Council and consulting dealing with both large and small scale hazardous substance and waste projects. Kerry also has extensive experience in all aspects of resource consent programmes, assessments of environmental effects, landfills, contaminated site investigation and remediation, environmental audits, the development and implementation of environmental management systems and development of environmental, hazardous substance and waste management policy.
Kerry has also been the principal New Zealand representative for the development of the ISO Environmental Management Standards (ISO 14000 series) with a particular focus on the standards for Environmental Auditing and Environmental Site Assessment and the ISO standard 19011 on auditing of quality and/or environmental management systems.
Kerry has a Ph.D (Chemistry) and has been a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Chemistry for thirty years. He has been involved in major projects such as the development of the Hazardous Substances Regulations (part of the Ministry for the Environment team), the Hazardous Facilities Screening Procedure (HFSP) – Land Use Safety Planning and risk assessments of the Western Reclamation Hazardous Substance storage facilities and the Rosebank Rd industrial area.
Kerry has been regularly called upon to contribute to major policy developments for hazardous substance or hazardous waste management or as an expert witness.
