Richard has extensive national and international experience on coastal related projects, often including innovative solutions, technical challenges and multi-disciplinary and stakeholder involvement.

Richard is at the forefront of coastal engineering expertise in New Zealand. He has over 20 years international experience in coastal processes, coastal hazard assessment, coastal management, design of coastal and marine structures utilising numerical and physical models and has written some 13 papers.

A Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil) and Master of Engineering (Coastal), as well as being a chartered professional engineer in New Zealand and on the international professional engineer register, Richard has directed coastal activities for major profile projects such as Oriental Bay Beach Restoration Project, Hawkes Bay Regional Coastal Hazard Assessment and Southern International Gateway in the Johor Straits between Malaysia and Singapore and the Westport Port extension in Malaysia.

Richard is increasingly called upon as an expert witness and continues to provide innovative, cost effective solutions for clients.
