Client : Lake Hood Extension Project Joint Venture.
Discipline : multiple
Lake Hood is an 84 ha man-made recreational
lake located near Ashburton, Canterbury. In order
to meet increased demand on the lake, the client
proposed to extend the lake by 94 ha and improve
and increase the associated recreational and
residential facilities.
Tonkin & Taylor were appointed to evaluate the
effects of the lake extension on water quality.
In addition to the Assessment of Environmental
Effects (AEE), the study identifi ed design and
management options to improve lake water
quality and the aesthetic appeal of the lake.
The Queenstown water supply network provides potable water to a rapidly expanding population in a challenging geographical layout. For the previous ten years, Tonkin & Taylor has modelled both the present network and several future network options for Queenstown and Wanaka. More recently developed are models for Lake Hawea, Glenorchy, Arthurs Point and Luggate, as well as dynamic models of Lake Hayes and Arrowtown. This has assisted QLDC in determining which major network upgrades need to take place and their priority.
Tonkin & Taylor provides accurate, high quality geographic information services. Geographic (spatial) information systems (GIS) are an important tool available to our specialised consultants. We use GIS to understand, analyse and model environmental processes, which provides cost effective benefits to projects of all scales.
Wakapuaka Floodplain Modelling, Nelson, New Zealand
Client : Nelson City Council.
Discipline : Modelling
The Wakapuaka Floodplain is an area of pasture at the foothills of the Glen with a history of flooding. Nelson City Council required a computer model of the hydraulic behaviour of the floodplain which could be used to model various preservation and development scenarios. A complex hydraulic model was developed and calibrated, and has since been used by Council to manage preservation of the Wakapuaka Sandflats. It has also been an important tool for Council as they plan for future development in the area.
Client : Auckland City Council / Metro Water Limited
Discipline : Modelling
Development of MOUSE combined sewer / wastewater /
stormwater network models for several Auckland City Area
catchments. Calibration of MOUSE models to flow gauge data and
preparation of Model Development / Calibration reports.
Validation of several MOUSE models against survey questionnaire
data and historical records. Determination of 10, 50 and 100
year ARI flood hazard areas for both the existing and future
development scenarios, with the identification of unsafe flows.
