Don Taylor takes the lead role in the company as Ralph Tonkin retires due to ill health.

The scale of projects increases significantly with Tonkin & Taylor’s involvement in New Zealand’s ‘Think Big’ investments.

The practice is restructured from a partnership to a limited liability company.
The Auckland office moves to new premises in Morgan Street, Newmarket. Terry Kayes is appointed Managing Director on the retirement of Don Taylor.

Notable projects included: Te Marua Lakes for Wellington water supply, Maitai Dam for Nelson water supply, LPG storage sites throughout New Zealand and the East Malaysia mini-hydroelectric projects.
