1990s

The company changes its title to Environmental and Engineering Consultants, reflecting the increasing emphasis of environmental issues and changes in the range of services provided.

The organisation explores mergers, but ultimately resolves to be an independent, specialist, employee owned New Zealand consultancy working in the Asia-Pacific region, a critical experience in establishing a strong consensus of identity.

The number of shareholders grows steadily and new offices are opened in key New Zealand centres.

The Malaysian operation is restructured, forming T&T Konsult.

Bryan Richards is appointed as Managing Director, International.

Terry Kayes is appointed Honorary Consul for Malaysia in Auckland.

The company’s first External Chairperson, Don Christiansen, is appointed and later, when Don takes up a lead international role with KPMG, he is succeeded by Dr John Hood, Vice Chancellor, University of Auckland.

Some notable project achievements include landfills at Redvale and Silverstream, the Vector tunnel for high voltage electricity transmission to Auckland’s CBD, State Highway 20, ground improvement for the foundations for Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand and the Opuha Dam for irrigation and hydro-electric generation.
